Not many rocknroll anthems get bigger or louder than AC/DC’s “Back In Black” —A song that’s soundtracked so many high-octane situations, if not induced a mountain of speeding tickets over the past decades. So when a Broken Baby cover came up on my YouTube page, I was like, “Oh. Hell Yeah! BB done got another killer cover!!”. Oh au contraire, mon frère (et sœurs)…Turns out, that this delicious LA alt-rock redux happened sometime during the pandemic. So, for a fella who considers himself some sort of Broken Baby connoisseur, I was befuddled that I’d missed this one. C’est la vie, as they say…

The Brian Johnson tribute to Bon Scott is reimagined through Amber Bollinger’s signature firecracker delivery, Alex Dezen pounding out those Young Bros. riffs and rounded out by Brian Griffin on drums and Adam Popick on bass, culminating in making this cover straight-up FIRE!

Speaking of Johnson, here’s a quote attributed to him in Mojo Magazine circa 2009, “…they said, ‘it can’t be morbid – it has to be for Bon and it has to be a celebration. I thought, ‘Well no pressure there, then’. I just wrote what came into my head, which at the time seemed like mumbo, jumbo. ‘Nine lives. Cats eyes. Abusing every one of them and running wild.’ The boys got it though. They saw Bon’s life in that lyric.” Sweet.

You can watch the new to me Broken Baby cover of the 1980 AC/DC powderkeg “Back In Black”, here at the GTC.

(Oh, and don’t forget to check out BB’s phenomenal appearance on Jam in the Van)

Yes, I’m let loose
From the noose
That’s kept me hanging about
I’ve been looking at the sky
‘Cause it’s gettin’ me high
Forget the hearse ’cause I never die
I got nine lives
Cat’s eyes
Abusin’ every one of them and running wild
