Every once in a while a voice emerges from seemingly out of nowhere that transports me back in time. One such vocalist is English singer-songwriter Ami Lyons and her current ‘nowhere‘ (if you will) is Nürnberg, Deutschland. And the time her debut single “Hate to Love Ya” instantly reminds me of; is the late 1990s when alt-folk-rock vocalists were all the rage (they still are, btw).

It was a hallowed era when Lilith Fair was a summertime must-do; names like Juliana Hatfield, Shawn Colvin, Indigo Girls, Joan Osborne, and the like graced the stage and had cassettes rattling around my car’s floorboards. Good times indeed and Ami Lyons would have comfortably fit on the famed music festival’s stages with her rich vocals and her band’s cool earthy rock vibes on “Hate to Loe Ya” soothe the spirit to no end.

The title is pretty self-explanatory, but to get ya primed to listen, Lyons sings, “You’re the one for my heart/ And I never wanna part,/ But I hate to love ya, hate to love ya—I don’t want nobody else,
Don’t wanna live by myself/ But I hate to love ya, hate to love ya…”. Yeah, we all know this scenario all too well. And now we have a new song to soundtrack our heart’s next addiction. Kudos to Ami and the band!

You can stream the timeless “Hate to Love Ya” and see its fun in-the-trees and props galore Egotherapie-helmed music video; here at the GTC.

“I am Ami Lyons, English living in Germany. I’m a full time Ambulance driver in Germany. In my spare time, I write and perform my songs at lots of different venues. I’ve been writing songs for about 8 years and about every other year I get the time to record one or two. This year, hopefully the album!! And… I now have a Band!!” – bio (Bandcamp)
