You still haven’t found what you’re looking for—Maybe it’s in Paris. Reality dictates that the emptiness inside that noggin of yours isn’t going to solve itself through wanderlusting…But a journey could bring you to your senses. This is the framework for London-based ROWSIE’s recent single “Paris”.
With a vibe and sound someplace between early country rock, Lou Reed, and Warren Zevon, vocalist Richard Rothenberg laments, “I left for Paris/ On the 21st of the month/ It was raining when I left London/ It was worse when I got off/ I looked and I looked/ And I found what I found—But I didn’t need to go to Paris/ To find what I need.” But for the payoff in this organically raw song is this verse, “Don’t want to fuck/ Don’t want to fight/ Just want to sit here/ Figure out how to love you tonight/ Didn’t need anything but you.” Pour a strong one–this is going to be quite the night.
So, this tale is as old as time itself. A rambling soul and their transient moments of discontent have been the origin story for many a great song and “Paris” is another fine one to add to whatever playlists celebrate the wandering heart and detachments of life.
You can stream ROWSIE’s “Paris” at the GTC.

“The vibrant, untamed ferocity and aural hysteria of Sonic Youth, meets the melodic Americana sensitivity and charm of Wilco. Rowsie are the result of an unlikely musical family, unafraid to weave classic song craft with surprise, humour, and the genre – fluidness of music made for love, not money.” – bio
