The recent single, “Rest Stop”, from NY, NY singer-songwriter Mae Krell is a somber whisper lamenting the need to be set free. Set free from what is open for interpretation, but what is a solid truth, is that this singer knows how to write an emotional and twisty narrative that may push you to tears.

I know I’m not alone
but you don’t pick up your phone anymore
anymore

I cried at a rest stop
in a state, I didn’t know

I want to erase all of this, begin again
but I don’t want to go back to the places I’ve been
and I know
I know
I know
that my ideas aren’t healthy, at least not now
but I chose to get out of my car, somehow

I’ve been much worse than this
am I not yours unless I’m sick?
was I better to be around
when you had to pull me out?

Co-dependency, heartbreak, and moving on is a tough road to travel and in their linear high vocal delivery that begs to get intertwined with the air in the room, this songwriter has a ton of weighty truths they must purge. And their coping mechanism is beautifully haunting folky soft rock songs that will resonate with anyone who has gnawing feelings and faces daunting realities head-on. No matter the hurt that awaits them…

You can stream “Rest Stop” and see the on-the-road-again music video, now at the GTC.
