If you’re a fan of the deep soulful vocal dexterity of Alicia Keys or the seductive charms of Gospel, then the most recent single “Yours” from Denmark’s Jaya May is going to move you. May [Emilie Espichicoque Vestergaard] says of the somewhat unconventional love song, “I wrote the song because I realized that apart from my real family, I also have a family of my own choosing. A team of people who force me to put aside some responsibilities and share some of the things that I was used to carrying alone.”
Embarking out on your own, no matter when that may be can be formidable at best, but we’ve all been there. Inevidely reaching out and making connections that feel as sturdy as the homes and families we’ve temporarily left behind. Sometimes these bonds can last a lifetime. And Jaya May’s emotional vocal delivery feels like truth and love while the song’s arrangement provides a ceremonial vibe that brings the whole experience into something heavenly. Altogether, “Yours”, is a beautiful journey most of us can relate to. A soundtrack to crafting new kinships.
