UPDATE: Dave Grohl On TV: “This is a musical map of America”
Just recently we wrote about (see below) Dave Grohl’s new HBO series following the Foo-Man around the country visiting different studios. New details have surfaced and it’s cooler than we first thought. The new 8 episode series is titled Sonic Highways and follows the Foo Fighters as they record their new album. Tentatively titled “Foo Fighters LP 8”, according to their Instagrampage. Interesting just went wild! The band hits Chicago, New Orleans, Austin, Washington DC, New York, Seattle, LA and Nashville and each episode will show the band writing, recording and chatting up notables in the music universe on the journey. Putting a spotlight on the recording coolness of (and in) America. There is a newly released trailer, see, right below this paragraph. From the clip you hear Dave Grohl softly narrate, “It all started with the idea of recording in different studios all over the country…Doing something to make it new. You can tie all of these people and places together with these ‘sonic highways’. This is a musical map of America.”
HBO hasn’t announced an official debut date but we will update. We all win.
Yeah, you know how we and every other student of rock have been going wickedly whack ape shih tzu banana bonkers for the Dave Grohl helmed rock-doc Sound City?
Its like God took notice, well, HBO anyway. According to Rolling Stone(via Classic Rock Mag), the coolness that is the FooVana man is set to star in his own docu-series peeking inside famed studios around the globe. Can I get an Amen brother and sisters…
Get this, Grohl will also be recording new music and chatting with the studio’s directors and artists along the way as well. Win Win. Including Ian MacKaye (Fugazi), Nancy Wilson and Paul Stanley.
This should be what us music geeks need, a chance to break free of the duck family and dig our teeth into something important. Rock N’ Roll.
RS.com also re-quotedthe Foo Fighters’ frontman on any difficulties directing Sound City saying, “No. This movie was not hard to make. Apocalypse Now – probably. The Sound City movie was really getting together with friends and digging deep into what music means to each one of us, telling the story of a studio that’s very close to me, and trying to give the viewer something that will inspire them to fall in love with music like I did.”
And we expect this new series to do the same Mr. Grohl. Right on. Expect the untitled project to debut later in the year on HBO in the States. As for airing in Europe, who knows. Our ears are peeled…
What about the new Foo Fighters’ album? Producer Butch Vig recently told Kerrang, “We’ve been recording at some different locations, but we’re almost halfway done with the recording and it’s going well, It sounds different — we’ve thrown a few things into the mix, in the recording process, that are going to give the record a different sound and a different feel. It’s been a challenge, but it’s also been exciting.”
