Vocally, the comparisons to Jenny Lewis and Angie MacMahon have already been justified with her last single, “My Heart”. And now, Irish folk-pop star-on-the-rise Amy Ellen returns with a track that has much in common with classic heartfelt life at a crossroads songs written by the likes of Dixie Chicks, Sharon Van Etten and Marty Robbins. “It’s Time”, a song that “reflects on issues of anxiety and mental health”, is an unfeigned journey.
A tactile thought process examining those chaotic self-evaluations and the need to express outwardly, but not wanting your vulnerabilities to change perceptions to the negative. And as storytelling has given way to formulaic rhythms, this one, produced/co-written by Axel McDonald, has its start, middle, and end rooted in melodic beauty.
