GLASS HEART STRING CHOIR Falling Stars
Glass Heart String Choir Falling Stars is available on Bandcamp, Apple Music, Spotify…
by Walter Price
Sweeping arrangments, dreamy and picturesque escapism and plenty of emotional textures guide you into a lullaby softness. Just some of the vibes from the new instrumental EP, “Falling Stars”, from Seattle-based neoclassical duo Glass Heart String Choir (Katie Mosehauer and Ian Williams).
You’ll find Williams’ angelic vocals missing from this album (he does appear on guitar) but this album of reimagined versions of some of this outfit’s most popular songs (2020-2021) is more of a well-deserved showcase for Mosehauer. Violin, viola, cello, harp, piano, Hammond organ, vocal choir, synthesizers, and programming. Not to mention, produced, engineered, arranged, recorded, mixed, and mastered…all by Mosehauer.
As Williams is certainly missed on this meticulous set, a new beauty emerges from familiar offerings. Every moment you’ll experience on “Falling Stars” is well established GHSC mesmerizing and meditative, but I must say that an absolute highlight for me is my usual sing-along “California“. A stunning redux that, like the other graceful compositions, finds new magic.
The world in which GHSC create is a world I could never adequately articulate, but whatever it is, I know it carries me away. And, I guess, that’s all that matters. Nonetheless, this album is quite the experience through and through. Proving once again that Mosehauer is not only a brilliant composer, but she may be a wizard as well. You can stream the extraordinary album in full, here at the GTC.
