Seattle’s Glass Heart String Choir is known for putting sound to feelings. The art-pop duo, consisting of Katie Mosehauer and Ian Williams, craft graceful and sweeping arrangements that blend seamlessly with the elements, and their most recent single, “California”, is no exception.

In a world that is starting to see the light at the end of a tumultuous era and as isolation turns to a time of reconnection, this song is one that will soundtrack new beginnings. In a quote provided to the GTC, the track’s story is told, “Wrapped in the warmth of cinematic strings, airy siren choirs, and yearning lead vocals, California invites us to pause as we begin reaching out again for the things we love and missed during our collective isolation, and consider how much they, and we, have changed.”

And you’ll find it hard to manage your emotions as Williams delivers his delicate words in his signature earthy, lighter than air vocals and Mosehauer’s strings bring you to the crossroad of fantasy and reality…

Do you remember
Constellations
They seemed closer
So much brighter

Do you remember
Moons and rivers
Shining clearer
Than our real life

I spend my long days
recalling old dreams
I spend my short nights
Dreaming old dreams
Crossing the borders of your heart

And speaking of fantasy or perhaps fairytale to be more precise, the accompanying film, directed by Mosehauer with assistance from Ryan J. Salva, is a dream rather than a standard music video. Set in the lush surroundings of Woodinville in Washington State, filled with twinkling lights that barely break the darkness, and the composers dressed in their best elegance, this cinematic beauty is simply breathtaking.

“California” is arguably the most beautiful single GHSC has released to date and you stream it as well as witness its film, now at the GTC.
