When you think of singer-songwriters whose lyrics and vocal dexterities can evoke palpable emotional moments, perhaps names like Jeff Buckley, Ben Bridwell, Adele, Gareth Lightbody, or Glass Heart String Choir’s Ian Williams come to mind. But another name should be added to the list and that moniker is SAER.
Track after track SAER’s voice and verses carry the listener to new depths. Sometimes comforting and at other times, he lullabies us into somber moments of reflection. His recent holiday single, “This Time of Year”, is a familiar one… Spending the holidays without a loved one. A daunting realization.
“To think I’m going to be alone, this time of year/ It breaks my heart in two, that I’m not over you/ In time for Christmas/ And I’ll be sat waiting here/ A drink for comfort not for cheer/ To hibernate would be a dream/ To hide from you just how I feel…But I still wish you well/ Coz I always feel the same the night I fell for you…”, SAER gracefully heartbroken sings.
If this emotional journey wasn’t enough for all the seasonal longing, the accompanying animated music video is sure to induce a tear or two on those cheeks of yours. Via Bandcamp, the film is spoken about, “Paul Griffin bringing to life the tale of a lost snowman seeking a reunion with a long-lost friend, drawing parallels to the heartrending journey of separation and the search for reconnection.” And, without hyperbole, it is one of the most beautifully done music videos to be crafted in a very long while.
