Roland & Layne Have Their Day

Today the GTC wishes Roland Orzabal a very Happy 52 Year of Birth! Oh you and your groups Graduate and the wonderful pop-rock or rock-pop Tears For Fears. The second of the two propelled you into the heart and ears of the world with albums like Songs From The Big Chair (’85), The Seeds of Love (’89) and Raoul and the Kings of Spain (’95).

OH, we don’t forget your successful writing and producing for other artists. But we will always hold a soft spot in our hard cold hearts for your grand pop sensibilities and the fact that you’re still doing the some grand work today.

Today would have been Layne Thomas Staley’s 46th birthday. One of the founding members of Alice In Chains which gave the world the gift of one of the best ‘grunge’/rock albums ever, Facelift (‘90). Every single one of the 12 tracks on this album was/is a rock-tastic groove party that rocked millions of car stereos to the point of near crazy-time!

But, I must say, that is was your work in/with Mad Season that I think you really had the chance to shine. With the release of Above (’95) it seemed as if you could let go and be you. Too bad your demons couldn’t let you be as free. You are missed the world over. R.I.P. Layne Staley (1967-2002)
