how it feels to be you, AMY ELLEN Only You Will Know EP
by Walter Price
Over the past couple of years or so, Irish singer-songwriter Amy Ellen has wowed indie-folk/soft rock fans, via a handful of brilliant singles, with her as delicate as coastal breeze vocals, heartfelt honesty, and her knack for blending earthy pop with just enough alt-rock punch. And it’s fair to say, that Ellen has certainly become one of my favorite vocalists in this short time.
A number of reasons why I’ve fallen for the songs this storyteller has offered up. Firstly, she’s never seemed too interested in letting her songs fight against the elements. Rather, she lets her words float, intertwine, and mingle with the air. Like she’s breathing her memories.
Secondly, going back to the folk/soft rock thought. Ellen delivers a timeless vibe that is comfortable and extremely approachable. Even in her most vulnerable moments, there’s an easiness about it. Like a warm, inviting place you feel free to let your hair down and contemplate.
And her much-anticipated debut 6-track EP, ‘Only You Will Know’, is all these things and maybe even a bit more. This set, again, may sound very familiar to many who’ve been following the rise of Ellen’s new direction. As several of the tracks have been released as singles. But there are a few surprises along the way to make it worth a stream or two, perhaps a purchase. In a quote provided to the GTC, Ellen looks back, “These songs represent a time in my life when I was finding my sound as an artist. I believed each track deserved attention, it made sense to release them as singles as I wanted to give them an extra push before releasing them as the EP.”
You can stream the beautiful ‘Only You Will Know’ as well as watch an acoustic, lockdown, performance of “In The Dark”, here at the GTC.

“It was my first experience recording with a band, way back in 2019! I was equally excited as I was nervous about releasing music for the first time! Although I feel I have grown a lot as a songwriter since the recording, I am so proud of the work we put in and the result that came from it.” – A. Ellen
