I finally found a way to say, SINGLE: MONDEGREEN – Winter
Mondegreen – Winter is available at Bandcamp, Apple Music.

by Walter Price
Without a doubt, when it comes to the perfected harmonies, musicianship, and melodies, Chester-based indie-folk trio Mondegreen will feel right at home with fans of Imogen Heap, Band Of Horses, and The Chicks. And similarly to these famed artists, it’s strikingly clear that this mighty outfit has a knack for writing beautifully weighty lyrics. Case in point, their most recent single, “Winter”, is near Hemmingway-poetic with its sympathetic realism.
With this incredible track, there’s a poignant and timeless reminder of change. Released at the beginning of the worldwide lockdown and the subsequent chaoses, this song will hit each new set of ears with a varying array of emotions and imagery. As not knowing what’s coming next as you watch things change around you is all things perplexing, possibly numbing, and certainly individualistic.
Let the leaves hit the ground first
Let them crumble under our shoes
Walk the mud into the carpets
Trees wear them golden hues
I’m running behind, just settling them in
I’m letting them flourish, letting them begin
I finally found a way to say
What I thought that we could be here
Sold by the drives against the setting sun
But the one I knew was driving home for winter
I’m sad the night had to end
But the feeling sinks to my gut
That I found a way to live through this
Then it went and changed its whole set up
And the efforts became worthless
Jump discontinuity to take us to a new year
So that was the one before you even had the chance to
And I couldn’t even feel it
If you’re into songs with a pulse and palpable authenticity, then add this one to your I-can-feel-it playlist. And you can stream this James Wyatt produced beauty as well as 2017’s Small Towns, now at GTC.
