In a recent Facebook post, Birmingham alt-rocker Lauren Hoyle signals what’s ahead for the listeners of her latest single “Where Are My Friends”, “If you’ve ever felt lonely like your world has settled down and moved on without you then maybe you can relate to this song. Or if you like wine and chocolate…”. What she hasn’t described was the sonic rollercoaster she’ll lead you on.
Driving the contemplations laid out in this track is an arrangement that sounds like a blend of 4 Non Blondes, Liz Phair, The Cardigans, and even a lil taste of REO Speedwagon. Vulnerability is probably the most confusing human trait and to be able to share openly what’s eating at you as life and folks move on with or without you must be somewhat therapeutic. Also, a bit of self-deprecation goes a long way to smooth the rough edges. And this single has all of the above. Not to mention, you’ll want to scream sing along to it, windows down…
“Where Are My Friends” is from the forthcoming Babywoman Records release, “FUN” EP, expected on September 17th. And if you’re a fan of catchy hooks, love to sing along to angst-ridden realities, and/or want to bop alone on a Friday night with that before-mentioned glass of wine, then add this one to your favorite life-affirming where-the-fuck-is-my-self playlist.
