The inner struggles or debate, if you will, about the cause and effect booze is having on one’s soul and outer circles is an evergreen one for sure. And that’s the message of Oliver Anthony’s “Ive Got to Get Sober”. Bluesy and gut-wrenching, the storyteller appears to speak from his own experiences, which makes the turmoil feel so tactile with this one.
The devil in the sauce pulling the narrator in all the wrong directions, affecting the words he writes and he knows he must press the brakes on this debilitating habit….but not tonight. We’ve all been there in one way or another. Hauntingly picturesque is the landscape Anthony paints here and it’ll grab your conscience hard.
