She got me with her eyes, SINGLE: HARRY STAFFORD – “She Just Blew Me Away” [Gothic Urban Blues LP]
Harry Stafford – Gothic Urban Blues is available at Bandcamp.

It wasn’t all that long ago that Inca Babies frontman Harry Stafford released one of the best-titled albums in recent histories, ‘Guitar Shaped Hammers’. An album that, with its dark cinematic lyrics, is something, if you haven’t already, to sink your teeth into. Blending Stafford’s gift of poetic wordplay and bluesy gothic arrangments, it’s a set that’s as much an ode to Tom Waits’ rawness as it is a respect for the music landscapes Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen have created and thrived in.
And, without a doubt, fans of that atmospheric LP will be pleased with Stafford’s new single, “She Just Blew Me Away”, from his forthcoming, and aptly titled, album/next chapter, ‘Gothic Urban Blues’ (expected 27 March 2020 via Black Lagoon Records/Cargo UK).
“Got a plate in his head attracting airborne metal splinters, mixed up in the mess of confused petal fingers
She got me with her eyes and as her hand held mine, exploding tiny clusters say the world is thine.
She just blew me away
Somewhere in this head is a plate of buzzing knaves attracted to the canteen in the gaping open graves
Solo to Mars and back behind the moon, space between my ears and into orbit too soon”
Clearly, the twisty lyrical poeticism is still at the forefront of this new track. But that’s not to say that you won’t get lost in those Kevin Davy horns, that will remind you of those hazy late nights on Bourbon and Beale Street, and Rob Haynes’ creepíng backbeat. All and all, this calling card for the new album has interests piqued. And you can stream it and ‘Guitar Shaped Hammers’ below.

“The unrelenting noise of the city, the sounds, the music, the traffic, with all its citizens shouting through the hubbub. Trying to make a mark with incessant hunger and ruthless desire. All seeking their fortune in the grime. Some satisfied to be alive and some probing for their place among the immortals: someone to love, something to blow your mind and a ‘soul sonic vision’ to look beyond the vista in a penthouse demi-heaven. Half the dream of the urban city sprawl: all the sound of Gothic Urban Blues.” – Harry Stafford
