From the swelling 11-track throwback vibed LP, “Bad Holiday”, the recent single “Burning” (video), from LA duo Child Seat is a lush time machine chock-full of post-punk synths and tasty guitar licks nostalgia, and plenty of cerebral weight.
Child Seat, as the burgeoning folklore goes, formed when Madeleine Mathews and Josiah Mazzaschi joined forces during the turmoil-laden pandemic and the results couldn’t be more ready to soundtrack the post-epidemic. And while many try to emulate the magical atmosphere of the 1980s, not many have all the ingredients or respect to authentically pull it off. But much like Fire Tiger, Claire George (Heartwatch), or Sweden’s The Magnettes, Child Seat gets it right.
Throughout the album, our current era certainly leaves its mark, but it never feels fully dystopian. Rather, there’s a sense of documentation, survival, or, better yet, perseverance. Tough times inspire great art is the overall conclusion here, and to get you started, stream the meticulous single “Burning”, here at the GTC.
