It’s been quite some time since we checked in with The Aquadolls, but as a video for their chainsaw beauty “Burn Baby Burn” popped up on my YouTube recs—I re-realized why this outfit is so damn cool.
Produced by Chris Szczech for their blazing ‘Charmed‘ LP, this empowering powderkeg harkens to the Riot Grrl era and is a genuine foreboding rocker for the now. As band founder/vocalist Melissa Brooks warns, “Well if you try and do a sneak attack/ Well don’t you even bother cuz my friends got my back/ We’re heartless we’ll leave you black and blue/ I’m ready to fuel my fire on you/ Yeah yeah yeah yeah…”.
YIKES! Fortitude comes with some authentic repercussions — So beware you near-do-wells, The Aquadolls have purpose and might, and with this single—they’ve warned you and may have empowered many along the way.
“Burn Baby Burn” comes replete with a killer Jenna Houchin-helmed music video that’s both heady and temptations and you can see it here, at the GTC.

For the first time on an album (after punk legend Fat Mike produced their three previous singles), the trio relied on an outside producer. Chris Szczech’s (Goo Goo Dolls) Zen-like figure brought a calmness to the trio as they knocked out each song. The Aquadolls were in the studio on-and-off since the release of ‘The Dream and Deception.’ The care and meticulous crafting of lyrics and music works seamlessly. What started off as Brooks’ bedroom demos and loose ideas turned into nine songs. ‘Charmed’ is also the first time that the trio wrote as a unit, allowing the tracks to blossom in the studio before transforming into fully fleshed-out songs that ended up on the album.
