According to the World Health Organization, “One in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide.”
Vancouver power-pop trio AUTOGRAMM are utilizing their blend of catchy art-punk and new wave to shine a light on and show support of mental health awareness. The “Bad Day” [b-side “Quiero Estar Sedado”] 7″ is as groove inducing as it is personal, as the band’s press statement explains,
“Infectious power-pop trio Autogramm release a new digital single and accompanying video through The Orchard worldwide. While the title song keeps with Autogrammβs tradition of crafting sing-along pop anthems, the lyrical content delves into the more serious theme of depression. Singer Jiffy Marx tells a tale of pain, pills, and helplessness brought on by the often debilitating affliction. He delivers a very personal account, as the subject of the song is a close friend to him. Live footage for the video was captured at The Astoria in Vancouver, BC by Justin A. Stadig. All proceeds for this song will be donated to The World Federation for Mental Health.”
The straight dope is, whether it’s you or someone you or I know, mental health issues affect us all in one way or another. Help support a great organization and dig into some bop ready rock n roll songs.
And the band has announced an actioned packed get-sedated-if-ya-wanna 2020 tour of Mexico, find the dates below.
