From an early age, I’ve always enjoyed Christmas. Spending time with loved ones is something I do my best not to take for granted. I’m fortunate enough to have a break from work for a few weeks so I’m looking forward to seeing friends and family and enjoying many an aimless evening together.
My favourite Christmas film is Trapped in Paradise. It’s a story about a bank robbery starring Nicholas Cage, Jon Lovitz, and Dana Carvey. A lot of people don’t seem to like it but for me and my family, it’s essential viewing!
Every year I write and record a Christmas song. I guess, unlike a lot of my work I do it out of an impulse rather than any thought-out plan. Once I see decorations appear in the shops, I start to get ideas for another seasonal tune!
My song this year is about someone out in a lonely rural area going through a difficult time. They feel the darkness of winter closing in all around them but somewhere deep inside there is a thread of hope that brighter days will come around again. I always get that vibe around Christmas, embrace and celebrate the sentiment that change is the only constant in all our lives. Time is moving in a constant cycle and has the ability to heal and give rebirth to all who faithfully learn to observe the wonder of nature’s majesty.
