There’s a lot to unpack with Tender Tones’ recent single “Pay More Pray More”. The Paris-based duo [Manon Deruytere / Maxime Pargaud] utilize their shoegaze expertise to craft a track that feels like a look at cult-of-personality behaviors that can manipulate one’s wellbeing. And in these bizarre times, as we are bombarded with news outlets, social media, religion, and false-profits trying to coerce our mindsets, this track slides in nicely into the zeitgeist.
However the song’s lyrics were intended or how you choose to interpret its message, one thing is certain, This outfit is in a class above when it comes to creating atmospheric and thought-provoking post-punk. This single comes from the brilliant EP, ‘Youth Retirement Club’. A solid set that also features the sonic stunners, “In Dreamed Lives” and “Tournée Au Japon“.
