Pop Futures: Sigrid – Don’t Kill My Vibe
Sigrid – Don’t Kill My Vibe.
by Walter Price
The West coast of Norway isn’t very well known for its pop stars, but this is on the verge of changing. Sigrid Raabe, or better known simply as Sigrid, is taking the world by storm with her beautifully written “Don’t Kill My Vibe’. A tale of empowerment.
Being left to believe you don’t belong can be devastating. Having your ideas, art, thoughts, dreams shot down by those self-important, and ultimately insecure, people ‘in power’ can also throw one off course. Sigrid has seemingly taken such an experience and turned it into a strong statement.
You shut me down, you like the control
You speak to me like I’m a child
Try to hold it down, I know the answer
I can’t shake it off and you feel threatened by me
This insight coupled with inner strength is a strong message to not just young women in the music business, but to a worldwide society that is being bombarded with trolls and soul suckers.Don’t let your vibe, your creativity, and/or your self-worth be tainted. Hold your head up, and rock.
You think you’re so important to me, don’t you?
But I wanted you to know that you don’t belong here
You think you’re so important to me, don’t you?
Don’t kill my vibe
The future of tangible pop music is here. Along with Birdy, Lorde, Lada Gaga…Sigrid has a voice, and we will be hearing her messages loud and clear for some time to come.
