Let’s set aside whomever you may think Elvis ‘borrowed’ from for a second. I don’t think many of the artists who’ve revered the King of Rock and Roll took those names into account when they paid homage to the kid from Tupelo when they forged tribute to him in song. Bowie, Orbison, Cheap Trick, Queen, and so on all tipped a cap to versions of Presley at some chart-topping moment. And like those hallowed names, the GTC fave from Missoula’s most recent single, “Sharp White Teeth”, adds to the lineage.
It tastes like rockabilly pop and it’s arguably CATNYP’s best representation of what creator Henderson K Shatner is truly about. One foot in the history of Rock and Roll and the other firmly planted in what this prolific songwriter holds dear, crafting pure respect for the art of song. Replete with deep-rooted lyrics and this single’s delectable guitar all make for a classic-sounding gem that would make even the most discerning lover of pop music (and what Elvis left us all) lean in.
