Three Reasons Why: 21st Century Troubadour Pokey LaFarge
Pokey LaFarge is available @ iTunes.
by Walter Price
Pokey LaFarge, with a half milkcrate full of releases, has a way of enticing the bejesus out of his established fanbase and converts alike. Utilizing hallowed music forms from the past (back-porch folk, honky-tonk, blues, and jazz) in highly-mesmerizing up-to-date interpretations. At times with a smirk at the mundane realities, those moments we all seem to thrive (or survive) in. LaFarge is a character of real showmanship. Exhibiting a fine respect for the musical heroes that came before him. Conjuring up names like Lefty Frizzell, Jelly Roll Morton, and Jimmie Rodgers. There’s a powerful chance you’re already a fan, but if not, I have chosen three of my go-to tracks from this need to know 21st Century Troubadour.
