…this mouth and teeth have gotten me, VIDEO/SINGLE: PILLOW QUEENS – Holy Show
Pillow Queens – In Waiting is available for pre-order at the band’s merch shop.

by Walter Price

The latest single, “Holy Show”, from Dublin’s highly praised indie outfit Pillow Queens is a sympathetic ode to the journey of experiencing, intimacy, and subsequent unavoidable realities. The storyline delivered in an almost apologetic tone that’s reminiscent of Courtney Barnett or Jen Cloher and the wordsmithery of Billy Bragg pulls at the heartstrings in the purest of tactile ways.
I’m sure you hate it
I’d say they can’t believe their eyes
Look what this mouth and teeth have gotten me
A bite of someone else’s night
Just pulling up and barely knowing
You shouldn’t have to repeat
Tonight we’ll watch a holy showing
A silent short starring me
Oh it’s the last time I’ll be your sorry sight
You’ll have these hollow bites to chew
Oh its a gas night ‘til I’ve to fortify
Shore up and purify my room
(I’m still a baby, if you’re still waiting outside
Tonight we’ll watch a holy showing)
The accompanying film, starring Eavan Gaffney and Agnes O’Casey and meticulously directed by Kate Dolan, is a tender memory-laden picture told through the excitement and unknowing bewilderment of a road trip in the midst of a burgeoning relationship with its first touches, kisses, and invited mysteries. Those ineradicable moments are beautiful, daunting, and can possibly become painful in hindsight. And here, the director captures the delicate sentiments of this song’s depths spot on.
“Holy Show” is taken from Pillow Queens’ forthcoming debut album, ‘In Waiting’, due September 25, 2020. And you can watch the song’s brilliantly done music video, now at GTC.

I’m still a baby
If you’re still waiting outside
I’ve got your eyes and cheeks in front of me
Filling the space between my thighs
I’ll roll you up and crack you open
We look like a couple of teens
Just hanging back and holy ghosting
Apologise and leave
