…what the score is, ON Blackmail
ON Blackmail is available on the ON LP available on Bandcamp, Spotify, Indiestructable Records
by Walter Price
Nipping on the heels of their self-titled debut LP (16 September 2022 via Indiestructable Records), Toronto’s own ON drop a crunchy new single “Blackmail” that’ll have fans of both post-punk and post-grunge blowing speakers.
Right in line with their previous single “Underdog”, reviewed here at the GTC, this third release from the forthcoming album has plenty of its DNA intwértwined with sounds once pounded out by the likes of the Pumpkins, Hole, and L7. But, as you’ll quickly realize, this isn’t a band ready to fall into the cookie-cutter footsteps of classic alt-rock. Rather “Blackmail” cements the fact that this trio of killer players is here to forge a whole new era of rock n roll.
This new one is again highlighted by vocalist Lucy Di Santo’s grab you by the throat delivery replete with a spoken word break that adds an almost haunting element to this embracing empowering track. Not to mention all the powderkeg energy Dan Cornelius and Steve Fall provide. All and all, this single is another reason why these rocknrollers have become one of the most exciting outfits to emerge post-pandemic.
You can stream “Blackmail” as well as see its music video, here at the GTC
