Old Crow Medicine Show

I was going to write this up tomorrow but there is better than fantastic news going around concerning Old Crow Medicine Show that I thought I’d publish it today!

Over the weekend OCMS was invited to join the famed Grand Ole Opry. The invite came courtesy of legendary Opry member Marty Stuart. The band has played the grand stage of the Opry dozens of times in the past couple of year but we’re sure that was nothing compared to finally becoming members.

Old Crow Medicine Show isn’t an ordinary country band by any meaning of the term. They are better referred to as a string band due to the various styles they blend into recordings and stage shows. Folk, country, bluegrass, and blues have equal billing in their set lists. OCMS is also known for mixing a good amount of Pre-World War II songs in as well(mainly blues and folk). All this creating an old school traveling music revival of sorts.

The Virginia groups, so called, claim to fame is the co-authors and original performers of the international hit “Wagon Wheel”. (The song was started by Bob Dylan and completed by OCMS frontman Ketch Secor) Since the songs release in 2004 it has been certified platinum and been recorded by Matt Anderson, Against Me!, Nathan Carter, Darius Rucker, Mumford & Sons and a few more I’m sure.

The invite to the Opry is a well deserved honor for these purveyors of traditional music.

Long live the Old Crow Medicine Show!
