New Music: Do we “Judge” too fast?
By J.P. Kallio
And another summer week flies by faster than F16. As you might know I took few days off last weekend, and I must say I was in need of it. So this week I was hoping to be working with renewed energy, but a damn summer cold knocked me down… But I am on a road to recovery now. Last week’s song once again got a lovely response from you guys and got also posted in the Global Texan Chronicles and Sphere Music. Big thanks to Baxter and Walter, but also all of you who shared it on your Facebook or Twitter feeds, it all really means a lot to me.
This week’s song “Judge” is a bit trickier one. For a few years now I noticed these young teenagers around the town, dressed up as described in the song. I know when we are young we all look for something to give us a sense of belonging, of being part of something. But at the same time we feel like we want to rebel, as it feels like no one understands us. And sometimes this can be something we think we believe in, but deep down don’t really understand. I can relate a lot to being an outsider, I can relate to people looking at you as you were bit strange. But the older I get, the idea of “normal” just seems to be more bizarre to me. The fact that you should fit in to some preset stereotype is why so many people just float through life feeling unfulfilled. It took me long time to make peace with myself and now I am happy in my own skin. I know it is hard when you are young, but just try to keep in mind as much as it does not feel like it your parents do care for you and only want the best for you. And try to keep a some sort of hold on reality, not everything your friends tell you is cool, really is. In fact some of it might get you in trouble that you will carry with you for long time to come. And as to us “grownups”? Do we sometimes judge bit too hastily? Have we really forgotten what it was like to be that age?
So there you go. Once again if you know someone this week’s song might touch, whether they are parents struggling with a teenage child, or they are the child, share this song with them. It might just give them that little bit of strength they need right now.
Also I would like to say big thank you to good friend of mine Barra McAllister for the wonderful Flute solo on the track.
