Moya Moya EP

In the past several months, with a handful of delicious singles, kaleidoscopic music videos, and lauded live shows, Munich’s Daisy Dreams collective has caused quite a stir. The “Blondie meets Sonic Youth meets dry cleaning” outfit crafts timeless post-punk-laced power-pop songs intertwined with poetry, self-reflection, and a smile. As their debut 7-track EP will wholeheartedly attest.

“Moya Moya” is a rare example of near-flawless production, songwriting, and tracklisting. From the soft jangle and airy vocals of opener “Tokyo”, the French pop meets The Church spoken word “Moon”, the poetry of “Molecules” and title track “Moya Moya” not to mention the track that binds the set altogether, closer “Angst”. Simply said, this is a stellar introductory album. Certainly one of the best debuts in recent years.

As for the title itself, Daisy Dreams has provided some interesting clarity. Sharing, “Moya Moya‘ is a Japanese term for a cloud of fog – also describing a disease where the main cerebral artery gets clogged. As a result, many new little vessels appear – which look like a little cloud of fog. Very similar to this scenario the creative stream of a band can be blocked forcing ideas to find different ways – songs, which stand for themselves, but lead to the same destination.”

If you’re into meticulous production, beautiful wordsmithery, deep thoughts, jangly riffs, and indelible beats, then Daisy Dreams’ “Moya Moya” is going to take you on a well-deserved sonic voyage. You can get on board and stream the EP in full, here at GTC.

The newly founded Munich band Daisy Dreams doesn’t waste time, only a few months after forming, they start playing the summer festival scene and are in the final stages of recording their debut album. it’s no surprise as the five members are no strangers to the Munich music scene. frontwoman Verena toured local and international stages with her dark pop project Klimt until 2019. The new sound is an energetic mix of dream pop, shoe gaze, and indie rock on a level that speaks from the band’s broad experience.” – bio
