THE TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT – Pride

by Maria Haskins Holy smokes, what a track, what a voice, what a band. The Temperance Movement blows me away every time I listen to them, and this live version of “Pride” (taken from the band’s latest album “A Deeper Cut”) is a revelation. Phil Campbell is a revelation on vocals, and if you ever get a chance to see this band live, go and see. They are fabulous, and they are touring right now (including a string of dates with Deep Purple). Check out all the dates on the band’s website.

HOT SNAKES – Six Wave Hold-Down

by Neil Schiller My second SubPop selection of the week – see, I told you the label is still putting out great music. Hot Snakes are a post-hardcore band that have been around, off and on, since the late ’90’s. Their members have been in a ton of other bands, perhaps most notably Rocket from the Crypt. ‘Six Wave Hold-Down’ is from their album Jericho Sirens which came out last year. I think it’s pretty awesome. It’s melodic and relentless, and hard-edged. Being a vinyl enthusiast, I love the video too. I could literally sit and watch a record spinning all day. ALL DAY. Especially when the sounds coming off it are this good.
