…turn around, MATT MORAN Wait (Don’t Go)
Matt Moran Wait (Don’t Go) [Heartache Kid] is available on Apple Music, Tidal, Bandcamp
by Walter Price
Someplace between Conway, Jones, and Buckley, track one from Matt Moran’s existential LP Heartache Kid is hauntingly breathtaking. “Wait (Don’t Go)” paints a feeling of frustration, regret, and humbling realization of what’s gone is gone. We’ve all made those walking-out-the-door pleas, but few of us have wailed an emotional and picturesque twilight song like Moran has here.
Throughout Heartache Kid Moran showcases his willingness to be vulnerably honest as he journeys through his states of being up to the album’s conception. But for the money, this alt-country meets modern rock songwriter truly shines on this set’s opening track. A powerhouse vocalist with truths to tell. Which, as a new fan, makes it all the better that he has announced an acoustic version (of sorts) of this LP.
From a post on Facebook, the forthcoming stripped-down album is announced as, “Heartache Kid: Acoustic Sessions” will feature: New song “The Hardest Part of Living” + 5 acoustic versions of songs from the album.” Expected on 14th April 2023, I’m confident that this is something to add to your save list.
You can stream “Wait (Don’t Go)” + the entire Heartache Kid LP, here at the GTC.

“Heartache Kid is a ten track album that explores what Moran calls “existential country.” The songs cover the topics of love (“Wait”), death (“Black Sedan”), sobriety (“Tequila or Me”), and the collapse of the American Dream (“This Can’t Be It”)” – bio
