…said it out loud, SINGLE: MARIE-CLO – At Ease
by Walter Price
Multifaceted Ottawa-based songwriter Marie-Clo’s empowering recent single “At Ease” is a retro-flavored romp with a strong message at its core. Produced by Olivier Fairfield, this track is parts Lilly Allen, Aldous Harding and a whole lotta fun. A song urging women to let loose, take charge, and go their own way. All wrapped in the 70s style pop that’s equal parts relatable, powerful, and certainly danceable.
And to add more good to this track’s allure, check out the brilliant accompanying film directed by Aaron De Silva. Set in a vintage boutique and co-starring Miambi Kassé, Judy Luo, Michele Shuster, the video follows four independent women letting interpretive-dance translate the confident lyrics. Full of color, style with plenty of quirky, the visuals here are perfectly matched to the sentiments of “At Ease”. It’s a big film on a modest budget and it really highlights the powers of can-do indie artists/producers/directors. Kudos.
This single is taken from Marie-Clo’s forthcoming LP, ‘Shell(e)’, which is expected in March. Until then, you can stream this release and watch the music video, now at the GTC.

“A true creative chameleon and seasoned traveler, Marie-Clo is a born performer who ropes her audiences into a feverish pitch in both official languages; thanks to “hooked on phonics”. Singer-songwriter and dancer, her eclectic indie-pop tackles current themes & conscious lyrics, but also conjures a colourful and enchanted world.” – bio
