Sante Fe-based rocknrollers Luminatrix’s recent single “Among Us” is a crunchy track that will conjure up many scenarios as the post-grunge song’s lyrics are laíd out. Is it a song about loss, greed, a video game, addiction, or something totally different? Kinda the magic in this one’s verses.
The single opens with the lines, “They walk among us, to steal the shattered heart/ To grind it to powder, they walk among us.” Quickly followed by, ” Life is rich and of the senses, some would like to try one on./ A little group that’s been forever, one push and you’re gone.” And to really twist the narrative, “Her friends did not know her well./ She had taken pills and alcohol./ She collapsed on a table where no one would see./ It’s not time to die yet so she stays alive./ Keep breathing, don’t open your eyes…”
Make this one what you will. But some things you can’t dwell in doubt with, those sucker-punch riffs, delicious bass lines, and vocals that’ll take ya straight back to the heyday of grungy early 90s alt-rock.
“Among Us” is from the band’s forthcoming album “Antihero”. Which is expected on September 25th. But you can stream the single and see its Andrew Primm-directed music video now, here at the GTC.
