Have you had the chance to check out LIP TALK’s bedroom pop masterclass LP, ‘Laughing & Eating Cake’? If not, temporarily put that Pom Pom Squad album on pause and dig into this 10-track firecracker. From the raw soul-twisting “Precious”, the quirky Lorde-esque gem “Bargain Day”, the sparse beauty of “Solar Return”, and fan fave “Marie” ft. Cautious Clay or any stop in between will mesmerize any fan of the just-outside-the-conventional.
But the best place to start with this album, is, well, the start of this album. “Running in Place” is steeped in 1980s movie soundtrack vibes. Not particularly the eccentric new wave that John Hughes was accustomed to using, but rather those mainstream movies that would sneakily have an unassuming track that would almost accidentally anchor a movie. Aimee Mann, Laura Branigan, Phil Collins, I’m looking at you…
And to add an even more retro to this single, check out the official music video. A film created by LIP TALK’s mastermind Sarah K. Pedinotti and her sister Elizabeth Pedinotti Haynes (AKA The Pedinotti Sisters). Here’s the scene, SKP hits a local picnic area, preps herself in 80s workout gear, and hits the rainy streets. Where is she going, who is she looking for….what happens next?! Well, no one likes a spoiler but I can say this, it’s well worth watching ’til the end.
A top-tier songwriter, composer, and filmmaker…What can’t LIP TALK do, that is the question…
