…soft ghost, KISSISSIPPI Last Time
Kississippi Last Time is available on damned if i do it for you EP, Apple Music, Deezer
by Walter Price
For those about to bop, Kississippi’s “Last Time” is about to rock you. Witty and pointed lyrics, an arrangement that travels retro pop, funky and dreamy, and dancefloor-ready—this indie pop gem is everything you need for your summer playlists.
The Philadelphia singer sings, “don’t know how it got this far, soft ghost in the blue light/ I don’t wanna dance no more, it’s not worth it/ cos I’ve been there done that, I came for the money/ but it wasn’t worth it, this is gonna haunt me/ and I sing my own track over karaoke…”. Now, the more I listen the more I’ve landed on that these lines are certainly from this artist’s experiences. Experiences (relationships) in the music business are weird if not heartbreaking at best and Kississippi’s journey is no different. Whatever caused this song to be written and released into the wild must have been pretty irritating—on the other hand, we the listeners get a fun song (replete with throwback synthesized voice in places) to wiggle around to. Soooo much winning.
Fans of Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Katy Perry, and/or Holiday Sidewinder, you can stream your fave new summer jam, “Last Time”—here at the GTC.

you don’t even know the words, but thanks for the insight
missed the chorus and the verse, i can’t stand it
when i play our song, you act like you don’t know me
but it makes no sense when you just said you love me
guess the jokes on me, but i don’t think you’re funny…
