LA has always a plasticine paint-by-numbers faux finish. Which, has now spread worldwide via social media. Instagram fish faces, flexing biceps, and bizarrely unneeded, oft unattainable, flash. And former Sonic Youth legend Kim Gordon’s haunting new single, “Air BnB”, bemoans the trend of you not really being you.

The stark lyric video heightens the track’s sentiments as it spells out the scene in a glassy faux mid-century LA abode. With its hipster shag carpet, you are coaxed into imagining a slithering Gordon being a made-for-video-rockstar. Cape and all…begging the question, “What is modern reality, anyway?”… In the end, will this film be considered the most cinematic imageless music video ever made? Certainly.

Take this dark stunner for a spin and add it to your weekend playlist. We have, at the GTC WKND SPIN. “Air BnB” is from Gordon’s forthcoming debut solo album, ‘No Home Record’, due 11 October via Matador Records.

No Home Record was produced largely by Justin Raisen (Charli XCX, Ariel Pink, Sky Ferreira) at Sphere Ranch in Los Angeles, along with contributions from Shawn Everett (Jim James, The War on Drugs) and composer/filmmaker Jake Meginsky (L’appel Du Vide, ‘Milford Graves Full Mantis’). Gordon’s solo debut album’s title is a nod to the French-Belgian director Chantal Akerman’s film No Home Movie. – Matador Records
