Jody Cooper “Silence” for Global Bahá’í Initiative

You say, admit to your crime
I say the only thing you’ll get out of me is
jody cooper silencemy silence, my silence…
My silence, my silence…

Singer/songwriter Jody Cooper has released the single “Silence” in support and hopeful release of the Iranian leaders held captive for now 7 years. Fariba Kamalabadi, Jamaloddin Khanjani, Afif Naeimi, Saeid Rezaie, Mahvash Sabet, Behrouz Tavakkoli, and Vahid Tizfahm were arrested and imprisoned in 2008 and in 2010 tried and convicted on trumped up charges of espionage” and “spreading propaganda against the regime”. They were sentenced to 20 years.

Cooper says of his track and its purpose, “Silence” is my first single and was written and released to coincide with a global Bahá’í initiative to raise awareness of the plight of Iran’s biggest religious minority, the Bahá’ís, and, in particular, for the seven custodians named the “Yaran” or “friends” of the Iranian Bahá’í community who are all currently serving twenty-year prison sentences for nothing more than being Bahá’ís. I also want it to serve as a reminder to the world that injustice of any kind cannot and will not go unnoticed – “No more silence.”

Check out the track below, purchase and don’t sit idle when you can help change the course for these maliciously imprisoned humans.

Dark space, under the ground
I’m hoping these four walls come tumbling down
One room and nowhere to run
Praying for something more but all that I hear is
the silence, the silence…

Somewhere, out in the light
they say I did them wrong, well I know I’m right
Why won’t you give me a chance?
Oh but the only sound that reaches my ears is
just silence, just silence…
Just silence, just silence…

Deep breath, open the door
and take me to that place, I’m bleeding I’m raw
You say, admit to your crime
I say the only thing you’ll get out of me is
my silence, my silence…
My silence, my silence…

The silence, the silence
Why must we keep the silence
The silence, the silence
Why must we keep…

People all over the world,
come raise a flag for peace, let’s see it unfurl
Justice is more than a word
so let me hear that sound, you know what it means it’s
no silence, no more silence, I say
No silence, no more silence
