Jeremy James Meyer – Cat On A Chain [Alive & OK, LP] is available Bandcamp, Spotify, American Standard Time.
by Walter Price
The last time we checked in with Seattle songwriter Jeremy James Meyer he had teamed up with Ben Walden on the brilliant Taco Tapes’ ‘trad is rad‘ LP. Well, this is now and Meyer has returned with a new album on the horizon called ‘Alive & OK’ and Walden is back as well as a whole list of top-rung players. And not to mention, the incomparable Bart Budwig and Matthew Neal Schultz joining in on production..
This set is gaining some worthy attention just off of its two singles. The juke-joint romp of “Low Gap Swagger” and the ramblin’ man story-song “Cat On A Chain’. Both tracks showcasing the before mentioned soul-shaking musicianship and picturesque lyrical depths that’ll have not diehard Southern Rock fans, Red Dirt aficionados, and jam-band loyals all finding common ground.
To get you acclimated, you can stream “Cat On A Chain” and it’s on the road again music video, directed by Bobby Cochran, here at the GTC. This track harkens back to the Dead, Robert Earl Keen, and Waylon with a bit of Chuck Prophet’s wordsmithery. To set the scene, this is a troubadour’s tale, taking his time with friends town by town. making a dime with his music any which way he can. It’s a bit romantic if you don’t mind waking up staring at both familiar, at times, and mysterious unknown walls on other occasions. This is a song for the perpetual traveler with freedom and an ole trusty guitar as the only constants.
The ‘Alive & OK’ LP is due for release on June 11, 2021, via American Standard Records. But stay here a spell and check out “Cat On A Chain’ before you pre-order…
