Many great albums make it into your collection but few artists/bands become permanent landmarks in your landscape. Those artists that seem as if they have been graphed into your skin, from the soil which you walk sound tracking moments that conjure up palpable senses. Your desert island picks. I”m sure I could carry on with the sentiments…
Sweden’s Hellsingland Underground are such an act and my hairline has receded several centimeters since their last release. But eureka the boys in the band have announced that the long awaited new album ‘Understanding Gravity’ will see the light of day early part of 2016.
After spending a sizable chunk of this year toiling away in the studio, seeing HU family member depart the group and various other bumps and bruises along the way this news hits a rock n roll sweet spot. I spoke to vocalist Charlie Granberg the other day about the new one and if he had anything he could tell me about its goings on and he said this, “Well, the album was recorded at a big old castle during 10 days back in May. It was supposed to be out in October but our producer had some sort of mental meltdown (yes, you can quote me on this) during the mixes and got lost far down the rabbit hole. Mixing each song as much as 50 times. Making it sounding worse and worse. The original recordings sounded great though, so now he went back to those and finished the album and it sounds awesome! Release date I wont know until the vinyls and CDs return from printing, but it has to be out in the end of March at the latest, because then our tour starts!’
Good news and to add to that the band posted the following on their website last week…
This band can sometimes feel like an old rusty locomotive. It has all kinds of levers, ball-bearings, gadgets and gauges that you have to maintain and oil and treat very gently until being warmed up. But once it’s up and going, it just keeps on accelerating, going faster and faster to the point where it’s hard to stop, no matter how hard you push the breaks. We are now out of the maintenance period and have just started to accelerate. Things are happening fast. A lot of things. Good things! We will of course tell you about all of this in a little while, but some stuff we’re just not allowed to talk about yet.

“Understanding Gravity” will be released on vinyl with gatefold cover, CD and all digital formats. We will give you an exact release date as soon as we have it. Here is the album cover and complete track list:
