NEW MONDAY! GRETA MARIA – Axlir EP
by Walter Price
Contemplative and honest. Beautifully melancholic. Soft and palpable. Songs to smooth the edges of emotionally charged moments, and songs to soundtrack those cups of tea as you stare out of a rainy day window into never fully realized horizons. This is the stunningly romantic EP, ‘Axlir’ (Shoulders), by Berlin-based Greta Maria.
Six tracks of indie-pop and heartfelt lullabies that, for English-speaking folks, may have been missed in this year of confusion and regrowth. An album that should be heard, nonetheless. As each song, seasoned with whimsy and under-the-radar hopefulness, never feels hurried. Rather, Maria’s vocals and the bare production work symbiotically to soothe contemplations.
This set is, without a doubt, one of the most delicate and picturesque examples of songwriting gifted to us all in these trying times.
