It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Pete Hopkin’s Get Back Val. And suddenly just last month GBV dropped a fresh new retro single just in time for the month of Love. Valentine’s Day can bring the warm and fuzzies or it can conjure up some good ol’ heartache. “Heart Attack”, with its 1987 guitar pop vibes is an anthematic mix of both.
Hopkins, a dynamic old soul producer and songwriter, sings, “I still remember 3 years, 3 months, 3 days ago when I met you/ You were a little too shy too sweet too good for me/ I knew it too—And yeah the way that you felt to me/ Was like Atomic bomb energy/ You were the queen of my destiny/ How could I ever have let you leave?”. Ah, the kickin’ one’s soul in the proverbial ass is an all too familiar scenario for anyone who has loved and then let it slip away—The fight to get it back, a formidable battle.
“Heart Attack” is a great contender for one of those 1980s movie montages–time to bring them back back back. Until someone does, you can stream the single here at the GTC.

“Love hurts and so does losing. A future retro-rockin anthem about getting back the one you let get away… even when you know better! Goes down sweet with a sting and a kiss.” – Get Back VAL
