TEMPERANCE MOVEMENT – Built-In Forgetter
Well, holy smokes, the Temperance Movement are back with a brand new album and it is flat-out fabulous. One of my favourite tracks from this new release is this one, “Built-In Forgetter”. It’s prime Temperance Movement, with a whole lot of rock and soul and a ton of groove, too.
The band’s new album is called “A Deeper Cut” and it’s available right now:
If you want to check out the live version the band did of this tune recently, it’s fantastic as well. This band is a force of nature on stage, and they are on tour right now: check out all the dates on the band’s website.
THE VELCRO TEDDY BEARS – Stand & Fall
by Maria Savva
I first discovered The Velcro Teddy Bears when I heard their track “Somebody”, which was featured on the Northern Exposure compilation album last year. Their latest EP, released in January is “Stand & Fall”. It was one of my favourite January releases. The title track is today’s track of the day. It’s a catchy, alternative rock song with distinctive vocals and an uplifting melody.
GENDER ROLES – Plastic
Gender Roles are from Brighton and signed to the Big Scary Monsters record label last year. ‘Plastic’ came out at the end of 2017, but they also released an EP earlier on in the year called Planet X-Ray. I could have picked from either to be honest, but I think this track shows how they seem to be getting better and better.
I saw an interview in which they were described as a mesh of emo, grunge and punk. I’m not sure I can hear all that in their music, or at least not in as clear cut terms as that. When it sounds good though I don’t bother trying to single things out quite so clinically. For me, it’s alt-rock: it has a great riff, interesting lyrics, a nice atonal vocal. Reminds me of Feeder more than anything else. Which is a compliment – I always liked Feeder.
