Terry Ashkinos’ Fake Your Own Death return with a churning and cerebral 4-track EP brimming with their signature shadowy post-punk vibes and social conscience lyrics. For fans of Bauhaus, The Sisters of Mercy, or perhaps Alien Sex Fiend but with a garage approach, this latest release cements the fact this outfit is one of the most underrated.
Throughout the short tracklisting, you’ll find guitar work that’d make Daniel Ash and the late John McGeoch proud and lyrics that’ll swoon fans of Peter Murphy and Ian McCulloch alike. But for the money, if you will, the top moments are the turn of phrases in “Digital” and the surprising energy sparked by the closing track “Bottles of Bottles”.
All and all, it’s another great release by one of the unsung heroes of California-based underground rocknroll. The only way to know though is to stream the cautionary “Bad Gods” in full, here at the GTC.
