The fact that we live in a world where so many aspiring music artists can create in place and hopefully reach more ears is a plus. Using said music to speak their complicated truths, as it were, is an even more significant plus. And the recent 90s era soulful dance floor Drum N Bass groove single “That Guy” from burgeoning Kent indie pop songwriter/producer ELIZMI [Haze] is a brilliant example of the vast new world said artists could thrive and express their realities. Even the daunting subject matter of mental health.

This is Haze’s story, in a candid bandcamp post ELIZMI says, “I have been working on this project for some time, it’s my first Drum N Bass track, and I have been perfecting my producing skills to drop it. I wrote the lyrics reasonably quickly as they highlight a problem I am passionate about—mental abuse. All my tracks are about mental health in some form or another.”

“That Guy” examines the fragility of faith and may not only cause you to break out into a dance move or two but resonate and spark palpable internal dialogue as well. Stream it here, at GTC.
