It’s rather hard to believe that more than a decade has passed since the world got its ears on The Electric Alley’s earthquake-inducing LP, “Backward States Of Society”. But do you remember the track in amongst the powderkeg rockers that leaned more towards the early 1990s alt-rock era? A song that harkens back to the days when you had cassettes from Gin Blossoms, The Tragically Hip, Sister Hazel, and the like slide around your secondhand rust bucket of a ride—Of course, I’m talking about the hidden-in-plain-site gem, “Sometimes”.
Now, losing someone offers up many forks in the road, and “Sometimes” is penned so eloquently that the listener is sure to make it their own. Lines like, “My whole life has changed since you been away and all of the people, every landscape I’ve seen/ It seems it was written, always believing, never stop thinking you should be alright/ I let you fly…”, certainly let the vibes of love and loss culminate into a palpable reality of— cherished moments may fade but they never fully vanish. Heady.
Oh, if the comparisons to Gin Blossoms and whatnot have your hard-rockin’ soul a little nervous…worry that little head no more— there are enough scorching guitar riffs to satisfy any rocker and dispel any thoughts of this track being hipster coffee shop music. But you can decide for yourself…
