…you are what you are, EL TERRIBLE – Want
EL TERRIBLE – Want [single] is available at Bandcamp.
by Walter Price
Terry Ashkinos and Dave Lentz have teamed up for a fresh new shadowy El Terrible single called “Want”. This one continues Ashkinos’s foray into the darker, brooding goth/psych side of post-punk. With its opening seemingly discombobulated vocals that magnetize the listener just before the track picks up speed and churns out a technique heavy stunner of a song. Proving, once again, that these two musicians are above most when it comes to creating beautiful gloom.
Lentz, in a Facebook post, describes the collaboration and the track, “It was super gratifying to collaborate with my former Fake Your Own Death bandmate and friend Terry Ashkinos…Post-punk with acid-fried disco beats and bombastic synths. Just like we used to do!”
Couldn’t agree more and you can stream this new one as well as last year’s “Live by the Scam”, now at the GTC.

“El Terrible, the nickname given to Terry Ashkinos when he worked as a short-order cook at a Sizzler, formed in 2016 as an offshoot/side project from Fake Your Own Death (a San Francisco indie/art/punk band fronted by Terry). At that time, ET released an EP and some singles and did some small regional West Coast tours. But as Fake Your Own Death became busier, ET stopped playing live and became Terry’s moniker as a solo musician. This single, Lifer, marks El Terrible’s return during these troubled times.” – bio
