The thrash / metal earthly gods Metallica’s legacy can be polarizing. With diehards voicing various opinions on when the band jumped the shark or softened to the fame and fortune. Blah, blah, but what we can all agree on is that the band really started to spread their dark and hardened wings somewhere around 1991’s Metallica and went sideways for good or bad on the Loads.
Shh, fear no more, the boys are back in town with something so hard, so old school…so Metallica. The world of metal and thrash have had their heavens reopened and their (our) worlds rejuvenated. The track hasn’t been getting much attention so I will share the new video for “Hardwired” from the forthcoming double album Hardwired…To Self-Destruct (November 18, 2016).
I don’t often point finger but fingers I must point on this new blistering track. First; Lars is a beast. He can do anything and at this stage in a career to have such precision in beats-rage is remarkable. Then there is Robert Trujillo. Keep in mind I mostly faded out on Metallica St. Anger era (Bob Rock played bass on that one) so correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems for the first time Trujillo has really left his mark on a song. Bringing his previous selves and incarnations to the forefront of Metallica’s sound. Will the new album show more of this?
Metallica may just save metal…again.
