Tucson’s Sharkk Heartt (Lara Ruggles) returns to the scene with a fresh new jazzy-pop track “How to Love” that turns her anxieties into a love song. In a quote provided to the GTC, Ruggles shares, “I never thought I’d be someone who shares my phone location with someone. That might have felt intrusive 10 years ago, but how else are you supposed to know that person isn’t dead?”

Joining forces with Kevin Larkin in creating this lo-fi groove of samples and emotional truths, “How to Love” may find Sharkk Heartt at her most vulnerable and, wait for it, hopeful. In an uncertain post-pandemic world, that says a lot for an artist/activist whose been pretty open about the downsides of trust and the world at large.

The indelible single comes replete with a homegrown music video that finds Ruggles exploring the complexities of finding the one and all the possible tragedies that could interrupt it all. The Freddy Jay Walker-directed visuals are a balance of romance and dark-humored uneasiness. And you can stream “How to Love” and see its video, now at the GTC.

We’ve got nothing but time
Time would have us believe but he’s a thief
Time will take it all from me
I’m out of luck I am the hypochondriac
Who cannot get back what I already have
