One of the beauties of music is the discovery of something new, something enchanting and something so entrenched in poetry and realness that it’ll lulliby you into a new realm of consciousness. My latest captivating addiction is the artist Cactus Tree (a moniker borrowed from one of Joni Mitchell’s most endearing songs) and her latest release, “Poets and Philosophers”.
“Poets and Philosophers” is a whispery beauty that begs the listener to sway softly in among the trees and soak and reinterpret over again the poetical verses. “I know a poet and a philosopher/ I know a painter / A writer of songs you’ve heard/ We all sit at the same table now/ Grapple with things no one really knows how…”. A cerebral and beautiful canvas is being prepped and we the hearers determine how we unfold these lines. I feel that this verse and all the lovely rest is an ode to the complexities of being an artist. A daunting yet fulfilling, if you’re lucky, journey.
Have a listen to the track and see its enchanting music video for “Poets and Philosophers” and find out what the verses tell you. As you do, I’m with the utmost certainty that Cactus Tree will be one of your new favorite discoveries.
