When Black Sabbath hit the scene in the late 60s the genres of Rock N’ Roll were a bit more defined and the fans of each branch were more easily recognizable.
This is now and there is so many version of what we the world call ‘rock’ its almost impossible to be certain on who is who and who will be around 40 years from now.
Ozzy, who is still basking in the dark glow of Back Sabbath’s phenomenal come back album ‘13‘, voiced some concerns, in the recent Kerrang!, of his own on who will carry the rock star legacy when he and fellow aging rockers are retired or just gone.
“I honestly don’t know who’s going to carry the flag in the future, but I wish someone would hurry up. None of us are getting any younger, you know.”
And he continues on about David Bowie and the lack of rock star style in many of today’s bands…
“David Bowie comes to mind. He’s always original with his image and music. Nowadays, I have a problem telling who’s in the band and who’s in the crew ‘ no one looks like a rock star!”
We feel ya brother Ozzy and understand your concerns. We also wonder to ourselves who’s gonna fill their (your) shoes? Not just in heavy metal but in country and boogie woogie blues rock we all love.
